Expert Guide: How to Measure Cabinet Doors
For professional cabinet makers in the USA, accuracy is paramount. This tool uses standard industry practices for calculating overlay doors.
Understanding Overlay
Standard Overlay (1/2″): The most common size for face-frame cabinets. The door overlaps the cabinet opening by 1/2″ on all sides.
Full Overlay (1-1/4″): Typical for European-style frameless cabinets. These doors cover almost the entire cabinet box.
The “Reveal” or Gap
When calculating for double doors, we subtract a small gap (usually 1/8″) from the center to prevent the doors from rubbing together when they open and close. This ensures a clean, professional fit.
