How to Use This Calculator (Expert Guide)

Using the right amount of floor leveling compound is critical for a successful installation. Too little, and your floor remains uneven. Too much, and you waste money on expensive materials.

Step 1: Measure Accurately

Measure the length and width of the room at its widest points. Since rooms are rarely perfectly square, take measurements in multiple spots and use the average or the widest measurement to ensure full coverage. Our tool allows you to input both feet and inches for precision.

Step 2: Determine Pour Depth

Check the lowest point of your floor relative to the highest point. This difference is your maximum pour depth. Most self-leveling compounds are designed to be poured between 1/8″ and 1/2″. If you need to level deeper than 1 inch, consider using a polymer-modified sand cement mix for the base layer, then top with a self-leveler.

Pro Tip: Always clean your floor thoroughly before pouring. Dust and debris can prevent the compound from bonding, leading to cracks and an uneven finish (delamination).

Why We Add 10% Wastage

In professional flooring installation, spillage, uneven subfloor absorption, and mixing losses are common. We automatically add a 10% buffer to your calculation so you don’t run out of material halfway through the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the standard bag size? In the USA, most standard leveling compounds come in 50lb bags. Some specialized products come in 25lb boxes.
  • Can I pour over plywood? Yes, but you must prime the plywood first with a high-quality primer to prevent the wood from absorbing the water in the mix too quickly.
  • How long does it take to dry? Most standard compounds are walkable in 2-4 hours and ready for flooring in 12-24 hours, depending on thickness and humidity.
